A downloadable delve

A delve through steel, flesh, and dream for Heart, the City Beneath by Rowan, Rook, and Decard.

The Curtain Opens...

In the bleak city of Derelictus, beneath the shining prison that is Spire, dwell those who the City Above rejects, those who refuse to be held by its facism, and those who seek a stranger life than what those above can offer. The characters for this one-shot hail from that myriad group: a band of erstwhile vagabonds who prefer the oddities and danger of the Heart to the prescribed inequities of Spire.

The Haruspex's Summons

When you awaken, you find the letter. It is printed on expensive yet frayed paper, and the ink that scratches out the message is a deep red hue. The circumstances under which it is found vary from person-to-person, but these letters never grace a courier's hand. Instead, they may be found in a jacket pocket or set upon a bedside table or wedged uncomfortably between your two sharpest teeth. The letter is an invitation. It tells how where to go and when. Based on the correspondence and the manner in which it came, you know that to deny this audience would be unwise.

Each character knows that such a letter could only come from the Haruspex, a blood oracle and speaker of truths who is said to only reach out to those with particularly important destinies. Her identity, if she has another, a more honest one, is not known. What is known is that an invitation from the Haruspex is an opportunity for glory and wealth, while refusing such an invitation may invite calamity.

The Haruspex's Request

When the pleasantries have been dispensed with (it is unlikely there will be many at all), the Haruspex will make her request of her guests.

She will also recommend the path through the Weeping Forest to the Ironstalker's Waystation, which she believes will be a location from which The Cleansing Yards can be found. Perhaps even with the help of a guide or someone else who has stumbled upon the Cursed place.
